Collection of master's certificates and steamboat engineer's licenses granted to Elijah R. Morehouse, and hull inspection certificates for the steamboat New Jersey, of which Morehouse was master. Collection also includes a letter from Morehouse to Capt. C.A. Woolsey, Supt. Ferry Jersey City, dated Nov. 24, 1874, describing his career with the Delaware and Raritan Canal and Transportation Company.

The Delaware and Raritan Canal Company operated a lock canal between New Brunswick and Bordentown, N.J., with a navigable feeder from Lambertville, between 1834 and 1932.
